PHCD COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM

The Burlingame School District is thankful for its current grant funding through the Peninsula Health Care District's Community Grants program. For the 2015-16 school year the following programs are possible through this generous support:

  • SEL Curriculum Expansion Grant - the Social Emotional Learning program helps our students develop compassion and skills in communication, coping, and decision-making. This funding will allow the elementary SEL program to finish its purchase of the SecondStep curriculum that is used by teachers in the classroom, and to expand its curriculum to include a School Principal Toolkit.

  • PE Software Upgrade - Physical Fitness Testing (PFT) is completed every year with all 5th and 7th grade BSD students. Currently, the process includes testing students and recording their scores on scantrons that are sent to the State for recording; a process that has a 3-5 month delay of notifying students and parents of their results. The funding from the PHCD will be used to upgrade the process to implement the new PFT software FitnessGram and ActivityGram. This software not only modernizes the process of recording PFT data by allowing PE teachers to enter results directly into the database through their electronic devices (tablets, laptops, smartphones, etc.), but gives students and parents quick access to these results through family login portals. In addition, students can use the ActivityGram software to setup personal physical acitivty-tracking profiles to log their daily activities. We hope to have this software in place for the Spring 2016 PFT event.
